Strong squad settles for point at Eagle
WITH their strongest squad for a number games, Barnton FC where bitterly disappointed to have to settle for a 1-1 home draw against Eagle Sports on Saturday. For the first 15 minutes Barnton played some of their best football of the season with midfielders Craig Phelan, Lee Jones and Tom Swan showing good form while up front Lewis Warren and Gareth Langley looked dangerous every time they got the ball. Eagle looked a far different side in personnel and ability from the game a couple of weeks ago and had two quality strikers, but they where well marshalled by the Barnton defence The home side had the better of the first half but they wasted a couple of good chances and could have done more with their free kicks around the box. Changes Barnton had to make changes for the second half with Jay Crellin brought on for the injured Langley and James Thomas introduced for the hard working Liam McDonald. The changes looked to have unsettled Barnton and they struggled to find their form at the start of the half. But on 50 minutes great work between Shaun Came and Warren set up Thomas to head home for the first goal. Eagle came more into the game after the goal and Lee Grannell had to make an excellent save to keep Barnton's noses in front. On 87 minutes, with Barnton looking to have done enough to secure the points, Shaun Came misjudged a header and the ball was quickly crossed to the back post for Eagle to equalise with a super header. The result leaves both teams deep in the relegation struggle with Barnton needing a point from their final game to stay up. BARNTON: Grannell, M Came, S Came, Whitehurst, Barlow, McDonald (Thomas), Phelan, Jones, Swan (Gunn), Warren, Langley (Crellin). Subs not used: Lewis, Douglas.
